In today's world, prioritizing fitness is crucial for both dogs and humans alike. Among the various exercises recommended, walking stands out as a top choice. Widely regarded as a safe and effective activity, walking offers a multitude of benefits, including improved muscular strength, circulation, memory, weight management, boosted energy levels, better sleep, and reduced stress. The American Heart Association suggests a minimum of 150 minutes of walking per week for optimal health.
By participating in the AKC FIT DOG program, both you and your furry companion can reap the rewards of improved health. If you regularly walk your dog, consider joining the AKC FIT DOG community and receive a complimentary 5-3/4 inch FIT DOG logo car magnet.
Displaying the AKC FIT DOG magnet proudly signifies your dedication to your dog's well-being and fitness through consistent exercise routines.

Achieve an AKC FIT DOG Title!
The American Kennel Club is dedicated to enhancing the well-being and vitality of dogs and their companions.
AKC FIT DOG titles offer a structured, personalized fitness regimen for you and your furry friend to enjoy together. These titles come in three levels: Bronze (FITB), Silver (FITS), and Gold (FITG). Each level demands a designated number of activity points, tailored to the title's intensity.
Bronze – 5 Points Silver – 10 Points Gold – 20 Points
Within each level, there are 6 categories of activities to choose from to earn your points.
Categories for AKC Fitness Titles:
- AKC FIT DOG Course
- Runs (such as Turkey Trot, Spring Scurry, etc.)
- Walks and hikes (Independent or Group)
- Personalized Activities for You and Your Dog (e.g., swimming, Parkour)
- AKC Titles with a Fitness Focus (e.g., FAST CAT, agility)
- AKC Parent Club Performance Titles (e.g., pack dog, sledding)
To qualify for each of the three levels of titles, a minimum number of points must be accumulated from at least two categories.
AKC FIT DOG titles prioritize participation over competition, allowing dog owners to select different activities to earn titles.

If you are already taking your dog on regular walks, you may count those. Remember that before starting an exercise program for your dog, it is a good idea to consult with your veterinarian.
