The purpose of this program is to recognize AKC dogs and their owners who have given their time and helped people by volunteering as a therapy dog and owner team.
Begin by obtaining your AKC CGC Certification. You can do this through K9 Titles.

How to Earn the Title: Qualifications
To earn an AKC Therapy Dog™ title, you and your dog must meet the following criteria:
All dogs are eligible to earn AKC Therapy Dog titles, including purebreds and mixed breeds. To earn an AKC Therapy Dog title, dogs must be registered or listed with AKC and have a number. This includes any one of these three options:

Community Runs
This category is designed to get dogs and handlers out moving together. Category B runs (which can be walked or run) are organized by FIT DOG clubs, online virtual events, or community groups. To count towards a title, community runs must be a min of 1 mile in distance. To document completion of the event, you’ll want to have data from a wearable activity tracker, Once completed, the documentation form should be signed by a race official or a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Evaluator
